Data Protection Officer

€85–150/hour

Data Protection Officers ensure every AI project handles personal data in full compliance with GDPR and sector-specific regulations across the EU. You will conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) for AI systems processing personal data, advise on lawful basis for training data use, implement privacy-by-design principles in ML pipelines, and serve as the point of contact with EU Data Protection Authorities. In medical AI, you navigate GDPR Article 9 special categories. In financial AI, you ensure DORA compliance alongside data protection. Your role is legally mandated for many organizations under GDPR Article 37 — and becomes even more critical as the EU AI Act adds AI-specific data governance requirements on top of existing GDPR obligations.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • CIPP/E, CIPM, or equivalent data protection certification
  • Deep knowledge of GDPR implementation across multiple EU member states
  • Experience conducting DPIAs for AI/ML systems
  • Understanding of sector-specific regulations (EU MDR, DORA, or equivalent)
  • Ability to translate legal requirements into technical specifications
  • Working knowledge of AI/ML data pipelines and training data governance
